Abstract: Pakistan\'s president Pervez Musharraf has approved a bill amending the criminal code of Pakistan to make honor killings a capital offense. In Pakistan, more than 1,000 women are killed every year under the name of honour killing. Meanwhile, honour killings have made headlines in the British media as British police last month reopened more than 100 murder investigations of Asian women in the country.
Pakistan\'s president Pervez Musharraf has approved a bill amending the criminal code of Pakistan to make honor killings a capital offense, several English media outlets in India and Pakistan reported on Jan. 5 and 6. The bill would also help stop the misuse of the Blasphemy Law and Hudood Ordinance, which criminalizes consensual extramarital sex.
One of India\'s English newspapers the Tribune reported on Jan. 5 that the Act of Honour Killing 2004 was implemented in Pakistan as of Jan. 5.
