Just prior to the G8/G20 Summits in Canada, another significant event took place, the World Religions Summit 2010 which was held in Winnipeg June 20-23.  Religious leaders from over seventy countries convened to craft and agree upon a statement to the political leaders at the G8/G20 Summits. To find out more about that Summit, and the final statement from the Summit which was delivered to the political leaders, visit:  www.faithchallengeG8.com

Notes:
I've followed the developments in the establishment of the Centre with a great deal of interest even though from a distance. I'm delighted that you've been appointed director, Richelle. I still have the files from the Faith and Media Conference in my office and will send them on to you before long. I just read the story Doug Todd wrote about likely faith stories of the future (at the Ryerson site). He takes an approach to faith that I totally reject. It is clear from the stories that he dislikes the people who genuinely belive--they're all conservatives or fundamentalists to him--and he also makes clear what an enlightened person ought to believe. Naturally, we should not be evangelizing for our faith, even Todd is doing it for his own position through his piece. His sort of writing is what makes Faith stories a trial for many of us. When we organized the Ottawa conference, we specifically invited people who believed what they professed and invited them to hear one another. I could talk more about this issue if you wished, but that may do for now. In any case, best wishes to you in your role with the Faith and Media Centre. Harold Jantz
